Play money vs. real money

There are two different kinds of online poker game tables: Play Money and Real Money. If you sign up you can enter all the play money tables, where you will get a certain number of chips. If you lose all of them you can just ask for more, but many sites will limit the times you can do so or how often you can get this chips. In real money games you will be required to deposit first, so it’s a good idea to learn how the site works first and get used to it before playing real money. You could do this in the play money tables. When you select play money you will through all the steps in the client: finding a table, sitting down, getting chips and playing poker.

Ring games vs. tournaments

There are differences between poker tables that you should know before making your approach to these games, like ring games and tournaments. Tournaments could be divided in single-table or multi-table games, and further into scheduled or the so-called "sit-and-go" events. That's why it is better to learn how to manage the poker-client before entering this more serious mode, maybe by trying the play money first and then moving to the free-roll tournaments, until you get comfortable with the client.

The Ring Game is just another name for the classic poker table that takes place outside any tournament. These games could also be named “live games” and they take place on a single table where any player can sit, buy chips, play a little and then cash out at any time he wants. Players in these tables come and go. The real difference between Ring games and Tournament games is that you have the possibility to sit out or cash out at any time during a ring game.

When you open the client you should be able to see all the tables in the lobby. The tables under “Hold’em” or “Omaha” are the Ring games, while the Tournament games will be clearly marked as such.
